A Very Orderly Super Bowl
Let's Keep America Great by Sticking to our Institutions, Traditions, and Values
(The primary content of this substack is video/audio of me towards the bottom… pls check it out… I expand on themes of meritocracy, anti-racism, social trust, kindness to strangers, having a shared civic religion which transcends ethnicity, and the joy and assimilative power of sports)
Hello Hello Mega Orderers,
I know you might be wondering what does a trip to the Super Bowl have to say about the state of our geopolitics? I would argue a ton. Down there in New Orleans the fact that many (if not most) Americans still feel connected to each other despite multiple regional, ethnic, racial, and socio-economic divides was apparent.
One could see that our uniquely American traditions, forms of civility, and civic pride are intact and transcend politics Also on display was the fact remains that America is capable of organizing and executing great feats of logistics and efficiency and providing a safe and comfortable space for true comradery and free expression. I’ve been to the Olympics and the World Cup and Premier League Football, none of it could hold a candle to the efficiency with which the security and ticket checking and crowd herding was done at this big game. America can do great stuff if it puts the unity energy of its people towards something.
So, before I tell you some wild tales of things I experienced (e.g. kindness of strangers, meeting celebrities, religious proselytization, and yes anti-circumcision advocacy)
Let me first tell you the story of why after the AFL-NFL merger in the mid-1960s, the interleague championship game inadvertently ended up being called the Super Bowl:
The above is from a great book that I recommend:
NFL Century: The One-Hundred-Year Rise of America's Greatest Sports League
Now let me show you some of the incredible ambiance of New Orleans and the Super Dome:
And the beauty and majesty of the Mississippi River which sets the New World apart from the Old as Mark Twain illustrated:
Now here is my audio/video of what this Disorder Road trip to a most Orderly superbowl teaches us about America:
The point is the Super Bowl is ordering and so is sticking to our traditions..
And now to the glory of the post game celebration:
And football really is about family. I went to the game with my dad. We saw mother and daughter combinations and many many father, mother, and kids combos:
If you would like hear more about the technical football dynamics of the game listen here:
I will have another bonus substack with Matthew Savill about British Defence Procurement and the Strategic Defence Review with some PAID only content.
